Project Description

This study was conducted to explore the intersection of career aspirations and marriage market expectations among a graduating cohort of male and female students at a major university in Pakistan. In a rapidly evolving socioeconomic landscape, understanding how young professionals balance long-term professional ambitions with cultural and family expectations is critical. The project focused on capturing the nuanced attitudes, preferences, and decision-making processes of students as they prepare to transition out of higher education.

A key dimension of this research was its holistic approach to understanding family dynamics. Beyond surveying the students themselves, the project investigated the perceptions and expectations of their parents, allowing researchers to analyze alignment or generational gaps regarding post-graduation plans. By examining these dual perspectives, the study gathered valuable data on expected career trajectories, acceptable field choices, work-cultural barriers, and the evolving nature of marriage market preferences among educated youth.

To execute this research efficiently and maintain a broad reach, the data collection was structured as an intensive telephonic survey. Enumerators utilized Android-based devices equipped with digital survey software to ensure smooth, standardized interviews and minimize data entry errors. This tech-enabled approach allowed our team to securely gather comprehensive quantitative and qualitative datasets. Following rigorous data verification and cleaning protocols, the finalized raw data was seamlessly shared with the client’s analytical team, providing them with a rich foundation to study youth development and policy implications in Pakistan.

Description of Services Provided

For this academic-led inquiry into the life and career preferences of university graduates, Versatile Consultants implemented a streamlined and highly efficient data collection operation. Our services began with the strategic recruitment of a specialized team of 13 experienced enumerators and one dedicated field coordinator. Given the nature of the study, we prioritized professionals who possessed strong communication skills and the professional demeanor required to conduct detailed, sensitive interviews with parents regarding their children’s post-graduation aspirations.

The operational core of the project was centered on precision telephonic outreach. Our team meticulously executed the survey protocol by calling the specific database of phone numbers provided by the client. To maximize the value of these interactions, the enumerators were trained to conduct in-depth, semi-structured interviews with the students’ parents, ensuring that we captured both the parental influence and the underlying household perceptions that drive career and marriage market decisions.

To maintain absolute control over the quality and pace of the survey, we developed a meticulously designed tracking sheet. This management tool allowed us to monitor call attempts, completion rates, and refusal patterns in real-time, enabling the field coordinator to offer immediate guidance to the team. By leveraging Android-based mobile technology for data entry, we ensured that the primary data remained clean and consistent from the moment of collection. This rigorous, standardized approach ensured that the final dataset shared with the client was both accurate and ready for sophisticated statistical analysis.
